How it's built

Started at 1,000. Stablecoins and gold tokens excluded. Members are the ten largest coins at each update, and the divisor adjusts when they change so the line stays continuous.

Countdown

How it's estimated

Bitcoin aims for one block every 10 minutes, so the date is the remaining blocks × 10 minutes. Real block times vary, so the estimate drifts by days.

Position size calculator

How much should you buy so a stop-out only loses what you choose?

With a $10,000 account risking 1%, an entry at $50 and a stop at $45, the position size is 20 coins, $1,000, so a stopped-out trade loses $100.
Risk $100 (1% of $10,000) with $5 between entry and stop, and the answer is 20 coins. Size comes from the risk you accept, not from how sure you feel. Free to reuse

What this means

The position is sized so that, if the price reaches your stop, the loss including fees is about the amount you chose to risk.

A stop-loss isn't guaranteed. In fast markets, gaps and slippage can fill your order well past the stop, making the real loss larger.

How it's calculated

Units = risk amount ÷ (|entry − stop| + fees on both trades)

How to use it

  1. Enter your account size and how much of it you're willing to lose on this trade.
  2. Enter your entry price and your stop price.
  3. Read how many coins to buy so a stop-out loses about that amount.

Worked example

With a $10,000 account and 1% risk, you're willing to lose $100. Entry at $50 with a stop at $45 risks $5 a coin, so the position is about 20 coins ($1,000), before fees.

Reading the result

The tool tells you how many coins to buy so that a move from your entry to your stop costs roughly the amount you chose to risk. It also shows the total position value, which can be much bigger than the risk amount when the stop is close. A position value larger than the money you have means the stop is very tight or the risk amount is too large for the account.

Mistakes to avoid

Common questions

Why size by risk instead of a fixed amount?

It keeps each loss small and similar, whatever the coin's price or volatility.

Will my stop always fill at my price?

No. In a fast fall it can fill lower, so the real loss can be bigger. See the order types lesson.
