How it's built

Started at 1,000. Stablecoins and gold tokens excluded. Members are the ten largest coins at each update, and the divisor adjusts when they change so the line stays continuous.

Countdown

Bitcoin halving

Every 210,000 blocks, the reward for mining new Bitcoin is cut in half.

How it's estimated

Bitcoin aims for one block every 10 minutes, so the date is the remaining blocks × 10 minutes. Real block times vary, so the estimate drifts by days.

Today's crypto prices by market cap

Crypto Fear and Greed Index

The crypto market reads 49 out of 100 today: neutral.

The KryptoKap Pulse scores the mood of the crypto market from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed). It uses prices only, so it reacts to what the market is doing rather than what people are posting.

What goes into it

Four parts, all from the 100 largest coins (stablecoins and gold tokens left out). They are how many coins are up today (30%), how many are up this week (20%), today's size-weighted move (25%) and this week's size-weighted move (25%). Size-weighted means a 5% move in Bitcoin counts for more than a 5% move in a small coin, because more money is involved.

How to read it

Under 25 is extreme fear, 25 to 44 fear, 45 to 55 neutral, 56 to 75 greed and 76 or more extreme greed. Readings at the extremes tend not to last long, but the score describes the market; it doesn't predict it.

Breadth and size, together

The two breadth parts (how many coins are up) and the two size parts (how far the big coins moved) can disagree. A market where Bitcoin rises but most coins fall scores lower than the price of Bitcoin alone suggests, which is the point, because the Pulse looks at the whole market, not its biggest coin.

Mistakes people make with it

Treating extreme fear as a guaranteed bottom, or extreme greed as a guaranteed top. Both can run for weeks. The score is most useful as a check on your own feelings. If you feel sure and the market agrees completely, that's worth noticing.

How it differs from other indexes

Many fear and greed indexes mix in social media, surveys or search trends. The Pulse sticks to prices, so every point can be checked against the coin list, and it updates every 30 minutes rather than once a day.

Questions

What is the crypto fear and greed index?

A single score for the mood of the crypto market, from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed). KryptoKap's version, the Pulse, is calculated from the prices of the 100 largest coins.

Is a low score a signal to buy?

No. A low score says the market has been falling broadly and sharply. Markets can stay fearful for a long time, so it's a description of the moment, not advice.

How often does it update?

Every 30 minutes, with the latest reading of each day saved for the history chart.

Why is it different from other fear and greed numbers?

Others use extra inputs such as social media or surveys, and update less often. The Pulse uses prices only, so it can be checked and moves with the market during the day.
