How it's estimated

Bitcoin aims for one block every 10 minutes, so the date is the remaining blocks × 10 minutes. Real block times vary, so the estimate drifts by days.

Today's crypto prices by market cap

Bitcoin Dominance

Bitcoin is 59.1% of the crypto market today.

Bitcoin's market cap as a share of every coin KryptoKap tracks. It shows how much of the crypto market's total value sits in Bitcoin alone.

Today in context

Over the last 1 days it ranged from 59.02% to 59.02%, averaging 59.02%. Today's reading of 59.10% is above that average.

What moves it

It rises when Bitcoin does better than the rest of the market, or when other coins fall harder. It falls when other coins outrun Bitcoin. Stablecoins count in the total too, so money parked in stablecoins nudges it down.

How to read it

Rising dominance often comes with caution, as money gathers in the largest coin. Falling dominance often comes with appetite for smaller coins. Look at it with the altcoin season index for the fuller picture.

Stablecoins and dominance

When traders sell coins for stablecoins, the stablecoin share of the market grows and Bitcoin's share can fall even if Bitcoin held up better than most coins. That's why a falling dominance figure isn't always a sign of altcoin strength.

What a point means

One percentage point of dominance is 1% of the whole market. With the market in the trillions, a one-point shift means tens of billions of dollars moving between Bitcoin and everything else.

Why it can differ from other sites

The total here covers the 1,000 coins KryptoKap tracks, so the share can differ by a fraction of a percent from sites that count more tokens.

Questions

What is Bitcoin dominance?

Bitcoin's market cap divided by the total market cap of all tracked cryptocurrencies, shown as a percentage.

Is high dominance good or bad?

Neither. It means Bitcoin holds a large share of the market's value. It tends to rise when investors are cautious and fall when they reach for smaller coins.

Does it include stablecoins?

Yes. Stablecoins are part of the crypto market's total value, so they're in the total.

How far back does the history go?

To the first day KryptoKap recorded a daily snapshot, and it grows by one reading a day for five years.
